An orangery for every style of home – Referred to as an orangery or orangerie, the term originated from the Renaissance gardens of Italy, in the 17th to 19th centuries where orange and other fruit trees were protected during the winter, similiar to the greenhouse or conservatory. The style today of an orangery is a comfortable room with a brick base along with large tall windows, typically with less than 75% of the roof glazed, featuring a roof lantern to let the natural light in.
As orangeries became more popular they started to become more influenced by garden designers and architects, which led to more modern techniques using opening windows in the roofs for ventilation and underfloor heating making the space part of the garden, creating the ideal environment for exotic plants. The glass extension also constructed to complement the home, making the ideal garden room.
